What We Do

Bad Apps builds specialized software tools for niche professional use cases, automating the repetitive, mechanical work so people can focus on what humans do best. Right now, we're applying that to the environmental space — grounded in our founder's background as an environmental lawyer. We believe technology can cut both ways: it can be used to deplete the environment, or to help restore and protect it. Bad Apps is built to do the latter.

ERAStatus

ERAStatus is an EnviroSmart service that analyzes testing data from California SMARTS (smarts.waterboard.ca.gov) and determines a facility's compliance with their Exceedance Response Action implementation of Best Management Practices to eliminiate stormwater runoff contamination. ERAStatus is built for the Enviromental Consulting and Engineering firms to help their customers remain compliant with the California Stormwater Industrial General Permit

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Sarah brings 10 years of environmental law experience with a deep focus on Clean Water Act litigation in California. As an avid surfer, sailor and advocate, Sarah directs our development of useful software that helps environmental stewards protect our natural environment.

Rich Cowper

Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer

Rich is a veteran of the managed software and infrastructure industry. With over 20 years of building and operating multi-tenant software services including 13 years at Amazon Web Services taught Rich how to build things people actually want. A technologist and sailor at heart, Rich loves taking on hard challenges to help protect the environment around us.
